WHAT ARE APPRENTICESHIPS?

Apprenticeships are a great starting point for getting your future career on the right track. Apprenticeships are dynamic qualifications that strike the perfect balance between training, study, and work.

As an Apprentice, you’ll be placed with an employer who will train you in a job role and help you to gain your qualification. If you like the idea of earning a real wage and obtaining skills and qualifications to ensure a bright future, then an Apprenticeship is definitely what you’re looking for. With the support of First Kare Academy, you can choose from a number of career paths as we offer a range of Apprenticeships from Administration to Child Care, Construction to Accountancy.

QCFs are nationally recognized qualifications that reflect how well you do your job and how much you know about your job role. Completing a QCF/ NVQ shows your employer that you understand your role and you’ll be helped by First Kare Academy to prove this.

Our staff will also make regular visits to you at work to guide you through the qualification.

The main part of completing a QCF/ NVQ involves collecting evidence of your everyday tasks and completing a series of units. Some units are essential, others are optional, but all of them count towards your portfolio which can be completed on paper or online.

In many cases, QCF/ NVQs can be completed using ePortfolios. This is an online system that allows you to communicate with your Manager and First Kare Academy using the internet.

With a portfolio, you gain your qualification by following an online training plan and creating an electronic portfolio.

Functional Skills

These are essential skills that you use in everyday life as well as in the workplace. There are three Functional Skills, these are Maths, English and, Information Technology. You’ll probably have already come across these skills at school.

Technical Certificates

These are aimed at developing your skills and knowledge in the technical aspects of the job you do. The focus of Technical Certificates is job theory and it is taught by qualified First Kare Academy staff usually away from the workplace.

End Point Assessment

A new development in apprenticeships standards is an independent assessment at the end of your programme. These take a number of different forms, including professional discussions, projects, assignments, and tests. First Kare Academy will inform you of any assessment that is required.

These are usually away from the workplace.

  • Apprenticeships enable you to gain a career focused qualification and can help you get into further education should you want to
  • Apprenticeships strike a balance between work and study – so it’s not all homework!

You are employed to do a job and you enrol on an Apprenticeship. You train towards your qualification through on going work-based learning, evidenced by a portfolio and continual assessments from Tess Group assessors.

An Apprenticeship can take a minimum of twelve months to complete.

Expectations

There are no time constraints for completing an Apprenticeship. Each one is individually tailored and the time it takes completely depends on your job role and your employer’s requirements; as a guide an Apprenticeship will take between 12 and 24 months to complete.
